I arrived at A&E by ambulance just after midnight on Bank Holiday Monday. I was dealt with quickly and had an ECG and blood test very quickly. Staff checked on me regularly but the following morning I had further chest pains and was quickly moved onwards to the cardiac section of A&E. Sister Julia talked to me about my condition and I then saw two doctors and between them they decided that I should be moved to the Cardiac Ward in the main hospital where I could be continually monitored. Soon after I was moved I saw another doctor who became very concerned about my condition. He told me that I would need to have an angiogram and probably angioplasty possibly the following day. I was really quite shocked as I had hardly ever been in a hospital before and could not really believe that I was unwell. The doctor then told me he was trying to get the angiogram done that afternoon (i.e. Monday). Next I knew the consultant was explaining the procedure for an angiogram and the possibility that angioplasty would go ahead too. So lots of staff introduced themselves and I was wheeled into the theatre area. I was treated very carefully and told not to move during the procedure. Although I was aware of what was going on, it was not unpleasant and various voices checked that I was OK from time to time. Then it was all done and the consultant (Paul Bhamra- Ariza) was telling me that they had inserted two stents and showed me the screen showing the narrowed artery - a bit scary! All this happened in one day which was actually a bank holiday and the team came in from their homes to treat me. I am just so grateful to all the staff - I must have seen at least thirty different people so I have not absorbed all the names but they were all charming, helpful and professional..

Report this reviewIf it was not for Wexham Park Hospital and Richard Baker and his team, I would not have a functioning thumb today. Bed team - Even though there was no bed, I was found a bed so I could have my operation. Plastics team - Fantastic in looking after me especially Liz who changed my dressing and Hayley who booked my appointments at thoughtful times as I travelled a long way. Cast ladies - Brilliant as my skin is more sensitive so they had to redo a cast and make it looser, they were very patient. Hand Therapy - Stephanie was very patient as I was very distressed and she helped make a looser cast and gave me gentle exercises. Lauren was great too. Maternity Nurse - Not forgetting the nurse in maternity ward (as only spare bed) who kindly did my hair in a plait for theatre as I couldn't use my thumb. Constructive comments - Two points: 1. A&E - Very busy morning but I was seen quickly, x-rayed me. I realise difficult to gauge all injuries, however I heard a snap and so knew my injury would not heal on its own. The man I saw told me to wait two weeks to see if it would heal (I knew it wouldn't) then in two weeks return for an appointment with Richard Baker in Plastics. So for two weeks I cradled a dying, lifeless thumb (it started turning black). So when I finally saw Richard Baker, I had to be admitted for emergency operation. Two weeks was too long, I should have had Plastics appointment sooner. 2. Operation anaesthetic (not related to Richard Baker or his Plastics team) - Originally needle was put into my hand. I've never had that before (only ever had needle put into middle of my arm between upper and forearm) else I would have said. My hand is thin and skinny, not good for needles and the anaesthetic didn't administer properly so I screamed, then it was moved to middle of my arm. However hand needle damaged my hand vein, that swelled and blocked a few weeks later. I saw Richard Baker (even though it was nothing to do with him) who assured me it was alright and would heal a little on its own. Thank you Wexham Park Hospital for saving my thumb.

Report this reviewWant to thank the lovely male Drs and nurse that saw me in the emergency plastics ward. I was so frightened after seeing a truly crule doctor at the bracknell centre just ours before coming to wexham. Being in abit of shock and terrified after slicing my finer open and being treated so horrendous elsewhere.. the whole team in the plastics ward made me feel relaxed and safe in their hands. They were sympathetic, professional and truly cared for my welfare and comfort. Could not thank them enough, for simply listening to me and treating me with respect and kindness.

Report this reviewMy friend had a appointment and we had to wait a hour to be seen then when she went in she was left for ages in the room to be seen and Docotrs wasn’t very helpful. We have been waiting over 2hours I think this is outrageous and waiting time needs to be improved asap wouldn’t recommend wexham park. Also with a&e waiting time was ridiculous and we just got sent home and said nothing wrong contact your gp,the decision that the Docotrs and nurse made is not very professional
