King George’s - Accident & Emergency

starstarstarstarstar

I was checked in in the main hall of the emergency and urgent care unit at King George hospital for a persisting allergic where I was placed in a short queue to be seen by a nurse who asked about my symptoms, how I felt, and what had happened, took my blood pressure, temperature and heart rate. Following that I was sent to the emergency department where my temperature, blood pressure and heart rate was taken again. I saw another doctor who once again asked me about my symptoms, how I currently felt and what had happened. I abided despite my discomfort felt, the itching and and nausea. I was then told I’d have a blood test and would have to wait for that to be done before I could be given any type of pain killers, or nausea relief tablets. After about a 45 mins wait I had my blood drawn. At this point I started feeling a bit dizzy too, despite letting them know of such I was still told to just wait to be seen by a doctor at in the waiting area. After another hour of waiting I asked them if I could get some information on when I’ll be seeing a doctor, I was told “soon” my catheter was flushed and I was given nausea medication and something for the stomach cramps. From then moving forward I stayed in the waiting area with no updates or information whatsoever, every medical staff that you asked a question to in regards of being seen by a doctor didn’t have an answer. I was then indicated to go ask another front desk within the emergency unit if I wanted to know when I’d be seen. I went there at least thrice to ask and every time I was told  “there are at least 2 people that need to be seen before you”. After going there the third time it was already 6am the following morning, I felt, weak exhausted and irritated. I asked to be checked out and to have at least some information on my blood work and a prescription but was very sharply responded with “if you want information about your blood work you have to wait to see the doctor same goes for medication, if you want to check out your checking out against doctors advice and you have to fill a form”, which I did, asked for the catheter to be removed and left by calling a taxi. The treatment I received in the emergency unit was extremely Slow, un-urgent, dismissive and not helpful at all. It was a huge waste of time and added decline in my health my causing extreme anxiety and fatigue by having to stay up all night for a doctor who never showed up.
